Spotlighted here is The Historic Registry Home. Reaching back into the founding of our Village, several "Historic Homes" were built well before the popular 1900’s Colonials! The Westervelt-Cameron house, constructed in 1767, is one of the original 12 sandstone homes built in our village. Restored and brought into the 21’st century, this was a true blend of historic charm and avant-garde amenities. Selling this home meant a tour through history. Under construction around the same time, its staircase “twin” is the Ho Ho Kus Inn! Centuries of stories include an expansive attic and underground tunnels to its horse stables (now the Ridgewood Art Institute) that were part of the underground railroad. Floor-to-ceiling walk-out windows made cooling this historic manor a breeze. While being brought into the 21st Century with the addition of energy-efficient Geothermal heating, a cannon ball was dug-up and displayed, purportedly from the Revolutionary War. Additional sustainable features were the custom cork floors, wild-flower gardens watered by rain-catchers and spray-foam insulation implemented by the beloved “Eco Ed.”
